The Training and Career Development Core of the Rush Center for Urban Health Equity (CUHE) focuses on improving awareness and knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Health Disparities across the Rush University and Medical Center campus. We are developing curriculum on health disparities research and behavioral interventions in order to change the current landscape. Training programs for Health Disparity Research Assistants (RA) and Community Health Workers (CHW) are being developed. Our employment goal for new hires is fifty percent of the personnel of the Center are from an underrepresented minority background. We aim to increase the number of underrepresented minority candidates matriculating in the Rush Master of Clinical Research Program and have added health disparity content to this Masters program. The Training Core will interface with the other CUHE cores and project PI’s to ensure that its education, training and employment goals are met. Whenever feasible, a representative of the training core will be present at community events that strengthen ties to partnering community based researchers, educators and advocates.
